Requirements

  • Free account creation at codepen.io/accounts/signup (codepen.io blocks non-browser fetchers with 403 — use a real browser)
  • This is a front-end playground/community, not a directory: the 'listing' is a public profile plus published Pens
  • Value comes from a completed profile (display name, bio, website link) and real public Pens — empty profiles carry little weight
  • Email verification is a documented step (see 'Email Verification' doc)

Prepare before opening the form

  • Username (check CodePen's Inactive Username Policy if reclaiming a name), email, display name
  • Profile website URL, bio, avatar
  • At least one polished demo Pen showcasing the product's UI/interaction — 'Picked Pens' are curated by staff for homepage exposure
  • Relevant tags for the Pens (CodePen supports tags and topics pages)

Workflow

  1. Sign up at https://codepen.io/accounts/signup in a browser (page 403s for automated fetches)
  2. Verify the account email
  3. Complete the profile: website link, bio, avatar
  4. Create and publish one or more public Pens demonstrating the product's front-end
  5. Tag Pens and organize into Collections; optionally join Challenges/Topics for discovery

Watch for

  • codepen.io hard-blocks automated fetches (403 on homepage and signup) — cannot verify current signup form fields; docs at blog.codepen.io are accessible
  • 'Picked Pens' editorial selection is curated, not submittable — don't assume homepage placement
  • PRO tier adds privacy/asset hosting but is not needed for a public profile backlink
  • Private Pens require PRO — keep showcase Pens public

What counts as live

The public profile at codepen.io/<username> renders with a website link and at least one published public Pen

Not verified

  • Whether profile website links are followed or nofollow
  • Current signup form specifics (OAuth options, CAPTCHA) — page not fetchable
