Devpost
Conditional free route community
Researched from public pages — no submission was run · sources read 2026-09-26. Rules change — recheck the platform's own pages before submitting.
What the free route requires
- Free to add a project, but requires a Devpost account — /software/new redirects to the login/register page
Requirements
- Publish a real software project — the Projects gallery is for things you built (hackathon entries and portfolio projects)
- Account creation via GitHub, Facebook, Google, LinkedIn OAuth, or email at secure.devpost.com/users/register
- Hackathon submissions are a separate flow governed by each hackathon's rules and deadlines
Prepare before opening the form
- A Devpost account
- Project name, tagline/description, story text
- Links: repo URL, live/demo URL, video demo
- Built-with tags (the gallery is browsable by tech like python, react, flutter, gemini)
- Screenshots/thumbnail image
Workflow
- Sign up or log in (OAuth or email)
- From devpost.com/software click 'Add your project' (goes to /software/new?flow[name]=add_software)
- Fill project name, description/story, built-with tags, repo and demo links, images/video
- Publish — the project appears in the Projects gallery and on your portfolio
- Optionally attach it to a hackathon submission via that hackathon's own flow
Watch for
- The software gallery skews to hackathon projects — a polished commercial SaaS can look out of place; frame it as a project
- Outbound links are nofollow per prior source data — value is developer-community exposure, not link equity
- Project pages rank via Devpost's own featured/tags system; weak built-with tags bury the entry
What counts as live
A public project page exists at devpost.com/software/<slug> and appears in the Projects gallery/profile
Not verified
- Exact form fields inside the logged-in add-software flow
- Whether moderation removes non-hackathon commercial products
