What the free route requires

Requirements

Prepare before opening the form

  • Expect a possible verification call from a D&B representative

Workflow

  1. Use the D-U-N-S Number Lookup tool to confirm no existing record
  2. Open https://www.dnb.com/en-us/smb/duns/get-a-duns-form.html and choose the applicable company type
  3. Fill out the business information fields and submit the request
  4. Decline the expedite upsell unless faster turnaround is needed — the number itself is free
  5. Respond to any D&B verification contact; the D-U-N-S Number arrives by email once authenticated
  6. After issuance, use the free D-U-N-S Manager to view/update the company profile

Watch for

  • dnb.com returns HTTP 403 to automated fetches — form interaction likely needs a real browser/session
  • Expedite upsell during checkout — explicitly optional ('This is not required')
  • This is a business-identity registry (citation/credit listing), not a product directory — the outcome is a D&B company profile, not a launch listing
