Conditional free route other
Researched from public pages — no submission was run · sources read 2026-09-26. Rules change — recheck the platform's own pages before submitting.
What the free route requires
- Free path exists but is selective: the Work Life section accepts contributed articles as complete drafts only — editors choose what to publish
- A paid membership route (Impact Council) lets members work with an editor to submit thought-leadership pieces
Requirements
- Contributed pieces go to the Work Life section (productivity, creativity, career development, hiring, work culture, entrepreneurship, DEI, innovation)
- Send a complete unpublished draft — pitches, abstracts, outlines, press releases, and interview offers are explicitly rejected
- Written by a person, not a PR department; over-the-top self-promotion kills the piece
- Secondary coverage reports submissions go to [email protected], ~700–1,000 words, with ~5 business days as the move-on window and 24h exclusivity after publication
- Contributors are unpaid but retain copyright (per editor guidance found in search results)
Prepare before opening the form
- A finished, polished ~700–1,000-word op-ed-style article — not a product announcement
- A leadership/workplace/innovation thesis with original ideas; anecdotes plus research
- Author bio establishing credibility in the industry covered
- If pursuing paid recognition instead: Most Innovative Companies applications ([email protected]) or Impact Council membership
Workflow
- Read the contributor guidelines article on fastcompany.com
- Write a complete draft matching the Work Life voice — op-ed, not content marketing
- Submit the full draft to the submissions inbox ([email protected] per secondary sources) or the current Work Life editor
- Wait roughly five business days; no reply means move on — they ask you not to follow up
- If published, keep it exclusive to Fast Company for 24 hours, then repost with a link to the original
Watch for
- Do not send a pitch or outline — only complete drafts are considered
- Self-promotional content about your own company/product is a stated disqualifier — a SaaS launch does not fit this format
- Multiple editor emails exist (section editors change); verify the current Work Life editor before sending
- Impact Council and awards (MIC) are paid/application routes — different products, do not confuse with earned coverage
What counts as live
A contributed article is published under the Work Life section at fastcompany.com/section/contributed-content
Not verified
- Current Work Life section editor and whether the [email protected] inbox is still the intake
- Acceptance rate for cold contributed drafts
