Requirements

- Business-software listings are a separate surface (sourceforge.net/software/vendors)
Prepare before opening the form
- Account credentials
- Project name and a desired short URL name (project lives at sourceforge.net/p/<slug>)
- Which tools to enable: Git/Hg/SVN, file downloads + stats via the mirror network, tickets, wiki, forums, blog, mailing lists, free web hosting at a sourceforge.io subdomain or custom domain
- Alternatively: a GitHub repo to import wholesale via /p/import_project/github/ (Bitbucket/GitLab via the project's Import page after creation)
Workflow
- Register / log in to SourceForge
- Open https://sourceforge.net/p/add_project (or /create)
- Enter project name and URL slug
- Select the tools the project needs
- Check the Terms of Use box and submit
- Optionally run the GitHub importer or configure the project's Import page for other forges
Watch for
- Two honeypot fields on the form ('You seem to have CSS turned off. Please don't fill out this field.') — automated submitters must leave them empty
- The open-source project forge and the business-software directory are different products — a SaaS listing belongs on the /software/ vendor side, not as a /p/ project
- Project URL names are a global namespace — first-come slug
- ToS compliance is enforced with removal
What counts as live
The project page at sourceforge.net/p/<slug> (or /projects/<name>) resolves publicly and accepts tool configuration.
Not verified
- Whether new projects undergo any manual review before appearing in directory/search pages
- Whether the business-software vendor listing (separate flow) has a cost
